Principal, Heard County Middle School - 2011 to 2015

Manage daily activities and lead faculty to ensure continuous improvement at this 6-8 rural middle school. Administer the school budgets and expenditure authorization. Set high expectations for academic and social growth of students. Leading a leadership team that develops and implements a school improvement plan with targeted performance goals aligned with the system's goals. Leading on-site professional learning that focuses on research-based practices for instruction and school organization.

Delivered Results:
  • Shifted school performance from below state average to significantly above the state average; 20% above the state average in some areas.
  • Increased the number of students exceeding standards
  • Restructured schedule to develop a much needed focus on English Language Arts as well as double dosing for at-risk students.
  • Initiated Saturday Tutoring for students significantly below grade level in Reading and/or Mathematics.
  • Initiated After School Tutoring for English Language Learners.
  • Led ELA Vertical Team to develop school-wide informational writing rubrics.
  • Designed and implemented an instructional calendar in order to connect grade level instruction to Special Education, Early Intervention, and ELL instruction.
  • Instituted systematic spiral reviews for Mathematics and English Language Arts; School-wide review day set for the last instructional day of each month.
  • Implemented school-wide discipline plan; Reduced office referrals and special education placements by 10% each year.
  • 2010 Title I Distinguished School
  • Ithica Elementary was recognized as a 2011 Highest Performing School by the Governor's Office of Student Achievement.
