About Me

Family:

The two biggest parts of who I am are my faith and my family. Although I am passionate about the field of education, I pour my heart and soul into what I do for my wife and two children. They are much more important to me than any career or any amount of money. God has blessed me with a loving wife who keeps me and our family running in the right direction every day. We met while in college at Jacksonville State University over 20 years ago in a Behavioral Psychology class. One day I gathered enough courage to ask her out and we haven't looked back since.
We have two wonderful children Laurel and Jay. Laurel plays Tennis for Heard County High School. Jay enjoys playing baseball. We love vacationing and spending time together as a family.

Instructional Philosophy:

I developed my instructional philosophy while working on my Educational Specialist degree from Jacksonville State University. My professor, Dr. Charles Notar, explained to his assessment class one evening that the United States Army was the best in the world at teaching standards. If the standard requires a soldier to change the tire on a Humvee, the soldier will change the tire in every possible condition. He will have to demonstrate mastery during the day, at night, in the rain, in the snow, on a hill, and while under fire. If the soldier fails to demonstrate mastery he is moved to the follow-up group of soldiers who are expected to demonstrate mastery of this same standard and receive further training and practice. No one just gives up on the soldier! This really resonated with me and has forced me as an instructional leader to put systems in place for students who didn't get it the first time. These systems have included; double dosing of academic classes such as reading and math during the academic school day, after-school tutoring, Saturday tutoring, and targeted remediation by teachers during their planning periods.
This philosophy has served me well over the years. It has also helped me to avoid chasing the latest and greatest fads in education that never seem to stand the test of time.
